The Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences, is a private medical college established in the year 2005. The College is affiliated to the Atal Medical & Research University/ Himachal Pradesh University (Govt.) of Himachal Pradesh and recognized by Dental Council of India and Govt of India with the annual intake of 100 seats in BDS and 29 seats in various streams of Postgraduate Dental Sciences. College is having Large open space, 10 acres campus.

Dental College is located in the town of Poanta Sahib, a peaceful and calm place suitable for education purposes. Institute is just 40km from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and 100km from Chandigarh. The Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences has 250+ dental chairs in the Under Graduate and post graduate clinics with good number of 220+ Outpatients reporting to the dental college. Every student has an uninterrupted working area yet closely monitored by the faculties across all the dental specialties in every clinic. Departments are fully equipped with indigenous as well as imported Dental Chairs, X-Ray machine & OPG, RVG machine etc.

MDS (Master Degree in Dental Sciences ) Counseling is conducted by  Atal Medical and Research University (State Domicile)

The Department of Medical Education will conduct Centralized/Common Counseling for filling 50% of State Quota PG (MDS) Degree seats in H.P. Govt. Dental College & Hospital Shimla, along with 50% State Quota and 50% Management Quota seats in private un-aided Dental Colleges of the State. The H.P. state merit list will be formulated by the Controller of Examinations, Atal Medical and Research University, who also serves as the Member Secretary of the Counseling Committee. This list will be based on NEET MDS scores and applications submitted within the stipulated deadline mentioned in the Prospectus for the academic session.

Currently, there is one Government Dental College in Shimla and three Private un-aided Dental Colleges in the State, all offering Postgraduate courses (MDS) approved/recognized by the Dental Council of India and affiliated with Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU).

Eligibility And Selection Criteria:-

ELIGIBILITY FOR DIRECT CANDIDATES: The terms &conditions for Direct Candidates will be as follows:-

1. "Applicants must have successfully cleared the NEET-MDS  examination to be eligible to apply online for admission to MDS courses through Centralized/Common Counseling. This process pertains to securing admission in both Government and Private un-aided Dental Colleges located in Himachal Pradesh."
2. Graduates (BDS) of Govt. and Private Dental Colleges of the Himachal Pradesh (i.e. H.P. Govt. Dental College& Hospital, Shimla/Himachal Dental College, Sundernagar, Distt.Mandi /Bhojia Dental College & Hospital, Baddi Distt. Solan/ MN,DAV Dental College, Tatul, Distt. Solan and Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences, Paonta Sahib,Distt. Sirmour)
3. Bonafide Himachalis who have done BDS from any institute recognized by DCI.
4. Children/Spouse of H.P. Government employees /employees of Autonomous Bodies wholly or partially financed by H.P. Government getting admission to BDS course, through CBSE/NEET or any other All India entrance Examination Dental Colleges in India recognized G.O.I /DCI

FOR 50% MANAGEMENT QUOTA SEATS(Only in Pvt. Dental Colleges)

The 50% Management Quota MDS seats in Pvt. Un-aided Dental College of the State of H.P. shall be filled up from the qualified candidates of NEET-MDS, 2024 in order of meritcum-preference of specialty and college. Any interested candidate can apply for admission to the MDS Degree Course subject to fulfillment of qualification and other terms and condition as prescribed in the Prospectus. There is no condition of Bonafide Himachali/ Graduate (BDS) from institutes situated in H.P.to apply under this quota seats.

Eligibility for Foreign Nationals: - Foreign nationals seeking admission to private un-aided Dental Colleges of the State must secure Management quota seats based on merit and preference of specialty and college. However, as per clause 4.9.2 of the NEET-MDS Prospectus, they must possess temporary registration from the Dental Council of India during admission; otherwise, admission cannot be granted. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the college to verify the candidate's antecedents with the relevant government authorities.
